FRIDAY 18TH MAY
TIME: 6.00pm – 8.00pm
VENUE: PRIVATE WHITE VC, COTTENHAM LANE, SALFORD
AN EVENING WITH PRIVATE WHITE VC
Salford and Manchester were famous for manufacturing with cotton, and the products made in the two cities became famous around the world. Now, there are very few factories still successfully making garments, with much of the production taking place in other countries.
However, there is mill in a small street along the side of the Irwell, just near Strangeways, that is a true Salford success story. Private White VC now makes high end menswear, sold in Selfridges and on Bond Street in London.
Come and explore the story of this mill through the words of one of its owners, Mike, who has been working there for over 40 years, when it made raincoats. He will be in conversation in the sewing room with Thom Hetherington, one of Manchester’s finest, and there will be many fantastic anecdotes detailing a life in manufacturing. Staff from Private White VC will also offer tours of the mill building.
There will be a performance by Sameena Hussain, along with musicians Michael Walsh and Liz Hanks, that tells the story of people arriving in the city.
An exclusive soundtrack to the event in the showroom, has been specially put together by LoneLady, a wonderful Manchester songwriter, often featured on BBC 6 Music.
There is a car park at the building.
There will also be meeting point at The Eagle pub in Greengate, for those wishing to walk. We will guide people down to the mill, across the Irwell. We will set off from The Eagle at 5.50pm.
