CABLE STREET CAR PARK, MANCHESTER, 7.01am Much of the land around the norther edge of Manchester city centre is now given over to car parks, offering cheap all day parking on rutted ground. Where once stood grand warehouses, factories and offices you can now leave your car idle. The butty. A staple of breakfast diets. Swan Street was recently discovered to be aligned with the sun on the Winter Solstice. The Smithfield market used to spill across this road, and it’s now famous for Band On The Wall, a couple of pubs and the last remaining pet shop in the Northern Quarter.
