SUNDAY 20TH MAY
TIME: 4.00AM – 5.30AM
VENUE: PEEL PARK AND THE MEADOW SALFORD
GUIDED WALK ‘LISTEN TO THE IRWELL’
Sound artist Xavier Velastin is to take a group of people (5-10) just before dawn to walk on the riverside of the Irwell, in order to listen to the environment and interact with the sound objects – natural matter, litter, railings – that are found along the path. Influenced by the deep listening practices of Pauline Oliveros and Murray Schafer, the participants would be encouraged to revisit their surroundings, get in tune with nature, and think of the acoustic, as well as visual, aspects of the local ecology. The session will also be a performance, with Xavier playing the part of a tour guide – this is in order to make it both enjoyable and accessible for the participants.
You may never experience another dawn in the city like this…
Meet by the entrance to Peel Park, on The Crescent next to the Maxwell Building ( Salford University, where there is a sign ‘ambition’ )
