LEARN HOW TO MAKE A SHORT FILM

This course is designed new to making videos or film. All you will need is your own laptop, and capturing device

such as a digital camera that records video, or a smartphone.

MAXIMUM of 8 places to ensure individual tutition… 

Learn to make a short film!!

This course is designed for beginners. All you will need is your own laptop and a camera to capture video, either a DSLR or smartphone.

Over 6 weeks you will learn:

• HOW TO TELL A STORY IN 2-5 MINUTES

  HOW TO MAKE A STORYBOARD 7 PLAN YOUR FILM

• HOW TO GET THE BEST FROM YOUR CAMERA, LEARNING PROFESSIONAL TIPS AND TRICKS

• HOW TO FILM IN BOTH ARTIFICAL LIGHT AND DAYLIGHT

 HOW TO TELL A STORY IN 2-5 MINUTES

 HOW TO EDIT YOUR FILM USING FREE SOFTWARE, DA VINCI RESOLVE 9 USED IN HOLLYWOOD! )

HOW TO EXPORT YOUR FILM FOR VIEWING AND SHARING
The editing program we  will be using is Davinci Resolve. DaVinci Resolve has been used for the editing or color grading of feature films such as Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Jason Bourne, Alien: Covenant, Avatar, Deadpool 2, La La Land, Pirates of the Caribbean, Prometheus, Spectre, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and X-Men: Apocalypse. Best of all, Davinci Resolve is completely free!

Please check that your laptop meets the minimum specification to run Davinci Resolve. You will also need a three button mouse.

Minimum system requirements for Mac OS

• macOS 12 Monterey

• 8 GB of system memory.

YOUR TEACHER

Your teacher will be Pete Tomkies, who has worked with Not Quite Light on numerous film projects, including the feature documentaries ‘Joan’ & ‘Gathering Points’. He has also worked on several other feature films, including most recently ‘Walloby Boy’. He regularly shoots and edits music videos, and writes a weekly column in a video / film industry publication.

As well as his knowledge with Da Vinci, he also an accredited Premiere Pro editor.

YOUR TEACHER

Your teacher will be Pete Tomkies, who has worked with Not Quite Light on numerous film projects, including the feature documentaries ‘Joan’ & ‘Gathering Points’. As a filmmaker, he has worked with corporate and charity clients as well as regularly shooting music videos.

In addition, he has worked on several independent films, most recently co-producing the feature ‘Secrets of a Wallaby Boy’. Pete has been a freelance writer for Videomaker magazine since 2015.
As well as being experienced with DaVinci Resolve, Pete is an Adobe Certified Professional for Premiere Pro and After Effects.

• Blackmagic Design Desktop Video version 12.0 or later

• Integrated GPU or discrete GPU with at least 2 GB of VRAM.

• GPU which supports Metal or OpenCL 1.2.

Minimum system requirements for Windows

• Windows 10 Creators Update. • 16 GB of system memory. 32 GB when using Fusion

• Blackmagic Design Desktop Video 10.4.1 or later

• Integrated GPU or discrete GPU with at least 2 GB of VRAM

• GPU which supports OpenCL 1.2 or CUDA 11

• NVIDIA/AMD/Intel GPU Driver version – As required by your GPU
