COMMISSION NOT QUITE LIGHT

Not Quite Light is available for commissions, workshops and photowalks…

The Not Quite Light project, exploring the world in the half-light of dawn and dusk, brings a fresh way to explore the world around us. And you can be part of this work through collabortaing on commissions, or hiring me for workshops, talks and twilight photowalks.

COMMISSIONS

MANCHESTER SKYLINE

The Not Quite Light project has been commissioned for a wide variety of projects and collaborations. This https://buttress.net/journal/2024/03/25/project-voices-rob-burgess-brunswick-villagehas seen work made across several major commissions for local authorities, festivals and corporate clients. These projects are often long term pieces of work lasting several months and have included photography, film and field reocrding.

Often the project ideas come from myself, after discussion with the organisation commissioning the work, and the concept is then fulfilled using a variety of relevant media and approaches.

For example, Dark Days Luminous Nights, commissioned by Manchester Collective, used photography and film. This work was then exhibited as an immersive experience, accompanied by music recorded by Manchester Collective especially to accompany the work  at The White Hotel in Salford.

For ‘Our Future is Ancient’ commissioned by Barnaby Festival photography, film, field recording, music and performance were part of the project, which saw me enter Macclesfield Forest each full moon over the course of 12 months.

A recent documentary film, Gathering Points, was commissioned by Salford City Council, which caused me to work closely with community venues in Swinton, Salford. This film was shown as part of residency in the Swinton Square Shopping centre, and will soon be available online.

In recent years I’ve also taken on commissions from arts organisations, developers and architects such as MUSE and Buttress, either recording the construction of buildings, or featuring people in local communities.

You can see here one of the short films from ‘Brunswick Voices’, produced for Buttress, and some examples of  ‘progress’ pictures here.

WORKSHOPS & TALKS

Photo walk and talk given during Manchester Histories Festival, in collaboration with guide Emma Fox.

Learning new skills, or hearing how others create their work can be invigorating, and workshops and talks are the perfect way to be inspired in your own life. Not Quite Light is often booked to host workshops and talks, either to teach ways of freshly seeing the world, how to use your camera or smartphone or simply to understand how work is conceived and created.

I regularly do workshops and talks for a range of people, inlucing local authorities, schools, camera clubs, festivals ( eg Bluedot ) and companies looking for ways to bring their staff teams together.

The workshops can be for just a few hours, or all day and the talks last for about 90 mins.

PHOTOWALKS

Walking is the best way to experience the environment around you, and moving through this space in the twilight brings with it an extra element of magic. My popular photowalks, both at dawn and dusk, take you on a gentle journey through the streets ( or countryside ) around you, making the familiar unfamiliar and causing you to see the world around you with fresh eyes.

The walks take around 2hours, and during the stroll we stop and explore the visual opportunites surrounding us, connecting us to the space in new ways. The walks can be for anyone, using smartphones, DSLR or film cameras, or even just your eyes, heart and mind if you simply want to enjoy the walk with feeling the need to take pictures.

As well as doing photowalks from the NQL studios, I’ve done photowalks for festivals, local authorities, private parties and companies.

Prices start from £275. To discuss further contact notquitelight at gmail dot com
