OPEN STUDIOS 6th July 2024

OPEN STUDIOS, SATURDAY 6TH JULY

FROM 1PM, NQL HQ, GF 008, THE COURTYARD, ISLINGTON MILL, JAMES STREET, SALFORD M3 5HW

1pm – LATE…

On Saturday 6th July, there will be an open studios day at Islington Mill, with lots going on. As part of this I will be opening up NQL HQ for the first time!

Come along to see the Not Quite Light studio space, view some of my work ( photographs, film and sound ), and take part in an urban photography workshop and twilight walk.

I’m delighted that there will also be a performance at 2.30pm of text and music. I’ll will be reading text, and I’m delighted to be joined by Jackariah, who has recently graduated from SODA in Manchester, and makes live, ambient soundscapes from loops and his guitar. I believe this is his very first paid gig! Check out his work here.

It’s totally free to attend the studio, performance, workshops and walk, and you don’t need to book to come down to the studio.

However, numbers are limited for the workshop and walk, so reserve your place via the Ticket Tailor link below. I look forward to seeing you on the day.

As it’s sort of a launch for my studio, I’ll have a few bottles of wine and some soft drinks, first come first served! There will also be refreshments available from the very excellent Deli Lama cafe in the courtyard…

Check out what else is on via the Islington Mill Insta account. There will be plenty to see and do…

URBAN PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP, 4.00pm – 5.30pm

Bring your cameras or smartphones, and learn how to take the pictures you want of the city around you. In the first half hour we’ll have a run through of basic techniques, and ways of seeing, looking at examples of how other photographers have taken pictures. Then we’ll go for a walk in the local area, capturing photographs as we go. The final part of the workshop will be a brief run through of the pictures you’ve taken, along with some tips for editing.

Suitable for beginners. Numbers are limited to 8, to ensure I get the chance to chat with you whilst out taking pictures, and to give time for the run through afterwards.

TWILIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY WALK, 10pm – midnight

As a summer dusk falls we will head out into the twilight for a delicious photo walk around the local area, exploring this fascinating part of Salford.

Bring your cameras, smartphones or nothing at all if you just want to wander and observe. Tripods are also welcome if you want to make long exposure photographs. There will be a brief chat before we head out on getting the best from your recording device.
